The safest process is not “apply immediately.” It is: check whether D&B has already assigned your company a D-U-N-S Number, verify the legal name/address/entity data, request a number only if one does not exist, then make sure the receiving platform sees the same company information.

What Is a D-U-N-S Number?
Dun & Bradstreet describes the D-U-N-S Number as a unique nine-digit identifier for businesses. It is location-specific and is used globally to help identify businesses and connect them with business information such as legal name, entity type, address, phone number and corporate-family relationships.
A D-U-N-S Number can be used by counterparties for supplier/customer onboarding, due diligence and business identification. But the digits themselves do not encode a credit score, financial rating, ESG score or other assessment. D&B can maintain separate scores and ratings within a business profile; those should not be confused with the identifier itself.

Is a D-U-N-S Number Legally Required in Turkey?
No general Turkish company-law rule makes a D-U-N-S Number mandatory merely to establish or operate an ordinary Turkish company. A Turkish company uses Turkish identifiers and registrations for domestic legal/tax purposes.
A D-U-N-S Number becomes relevant when a specific external party, program or platform asks for one. Examples can include:
- organization enrollment in the Apple Developer Program;
- organization/business verification for Google developer accounts;
- supplier or customer onboarding by multinational companies;
- business-partner due diligence;
- contract/tender processes where the counterparty requests a D-U-N-S identifier; or
- other global vendor-management or business-verification systems.
Do not tell a Turkish exporter that D-U-N-S is automatically an export licence, exporters’ association registration or customs requirement. Those are separate processes. For exporter-registration questions, use the Turkey exporter-registration guide.
Step 1: Search Before You Request a New Number
D&B specifically recommends checking whether the business already has a D-U-N-S Number before submitting a new request. A company can already exist in the D&B database even when the current management does not know the number.
Use the official D&B lookup and search with the company’s current legal identity and address. If a matching record is found, work from that record rather than creating a second identity.

Why duplicate prevention matters
Platforms generally need the D-U-N-S profile to match the legal entity being enrolled. A second or inconsistent record can create a harder verification problem than a missing record. If the existing D&B profile has an old address, spelling or entity status, correct the profile instead of treating a new D-U-N-S application as a workaround.
Step 2: Build a Single Company Identity Sheet
Before lookup or application, create one source-of-truth sheet for the Turkish company. It should be reconciled against current official company evidence.

Do not upload documents that the platform has not asked for merely because an old checklist says every applicant must submit them.

Step 3: Request a D-U-N-S Number Only If You Need One
D&B’s current general request page states that requesting and receiving a D-U-N-S Number is free. It provides an international-business route and also offers an optional paid expedited service in some channels.
The general D&B request process can ask for information such as:
- legal business name;
- business address;
- business phone number;
- owner, president or CEO information;
- legal structure;
- year established;
- primary industry; and
- employee count.
D&B may contact the business to validate information before assigning the number.

Apple also states that expediting D-U-N-S creation does not shorten the waiting period in its own D-U-N-S enrollment process. That is why a generic “pay and get it in a few days” promise should not be used for every applicant.
Apple Developer Program: When D-U-N-S Is Required
Apple’s current Developer Program guidance requires a D-U-N-S Number when enrolling an organization, except for specified government entities. Apple uses it to verify the organization’s identity, legal-entity status and address.
Apple distinguishes organization enrollment from individual enrollment:
- Organization: must be a legal entity that can enter contracts with Apple and generally needs a D-U-N-S Number.
- Individual / sole proprietor or single-person business: enrolls under the individual’s legal name and does not need a D-U-N-S Number for that individual route.
Apple says DBAs, fictitious business names, trade names and branches are not accepted as the organization legal entity for this enrollment route. The D&B record therefore needs to match the legal entity being enrolled, not only the app’s brand.

Google / Android Developer Organization Verification
Google’s current Android Developer Console guidance requires a D-U-N-S Number for an organization account, subject to the stated government and unsupported-region alternatives. The D-U-N-S record is only one part of the identity check.
For organization verification, Google currently also requires an official identity document from a person authorised to act for the organization and an official organization document. The organization name on that document must match the name in the Dun & Bradstreet profile. Google also requires organization accounts to verify ownership of the organization’s website through Google Search Console.
This does not mean every Android developer in Türkiye needs a D-U-N-S Number. Google provides a separate personal-account route. Choose the account type that matches the real publisher/organization rather than creating an organization solely to satisfy a platform field.
Google also advises organizations to plan ahead because obtaining a D-U-N-S Number can take time. Use the current Google account-creation and identity-verification guidance together with D&B’s own timing rather than assuming platform verification is complete as soon as the D-U-N-S Number is issued.

What a D-U-N-S Number Does Not Prove
A D-U-N-S Number is useful, but it should not be marketed as a universal certificate of credibility.
- It does not prove that the company is solvent.
- It does not guarantee a good credit score or credit limit.
- It does not guarantee Apple, Google, bank, supplier or tender approval.
- It does not replace Turkish Trade Registry, tax or chamber evidence.
- It does not grant an export licence, customs registration or product permission.
- It does not create a right to funding or better payment terms.
D&B can maintain business credit files, scores and ratings connected to a business profile, but the D-U-N-S identifier itself is not one of those scores.
Fixing a D&B Data Mismatch
If a platform reports that the company cannot be verified, compare the platform data and D&B profile field by field before resubmitting.
- Confirm the exact legal entity name.
- Confirm the current headquarters/registered address.
- Confirm legal form and entity status.
- Check company phone and contact details.
- Check whether the D-U-N-S record belongs to the correct location/entity.
- Update D&B where the D&B record is wrong.
- Allow the receiving platform’s synchronization period before retrying verification.
Do not solve a mismatch by changing Turkish corporate records merely to copy stale D&B data. Update the record that is wrong and preserve evidence of the current legal company information.
When the Company Changes Name or Address
A D&B profile should be maintained as the company changes. Legal-name, address, phone, ownership-family or other material business-profile changes can affect later third-party verification.
Build D&B into the same change-management checklist used for banks, marketplaces and major counterparties:
- complete the Turkish corporate change first;
- obtain current official evidence;
- update D&B;
- check platform/provider synchronization; and
- re-run verification only after the records align.
