A shared office in Istanbul gives individuals and small teams access to a workspace used alongside other businesses. Before joining, confirm which desk or seating rights you receive, when your team can enter, where private calls can take place and how meeting rooms are booked. A coworking membership does not automatically include a registered company address.

For foreign founders, there are three separate checks: whether the workspace suits daily operations, whether the agreement permits official address use, and whether the activity needs particular premises or permissions. A suitable desk solves only the first of those questions.

This guide focuses on using shared workspace day to day. For a broader choice between workspace models, see the flexible office space guide. For comparing written offers, use the coworking price guide.

Choose the Desk Arrangement Your Team Will Actually Use

The terms “shared office” and “coworking” do not describe one standard package. Ask the operator to show the exact seating arrangement and explain what happens when the space is busy.

Evaluate a shared office by access, privacy, meeting facilities and location rather than appearance alone.

Arrangement What to confirm Useful when
Hot desk Whether a seat is guaranteed, reservation rules and eligible days Attendance varies and people do not need a fixed workstation
Dedicated desk Exclusive desk rights, permitted equipment and secure storage Someone works regularly from the same place
Shared team seating Simultaneous-user allowance and whether adjacent seats can be reserved A small team needs to collaborate in person
Private room within a shared facility Room capacity, lockability, sound privacy and guest rules Frequent confidential work makes open seating unsuitable

Compare attendance at peak times, not only the number of employees. A four-person team whose members visit on different days may need a different arrangement from four people attending together. Named-user rules may also prevent members from sharing one access pass.

A virtual office is a separate address-service option. It may suit a company that does not need regular desk access, subject to the activity and written package. Do not buy a desk solely because you assume one is mandatory for every company.

Test the Workspace During a Normal Working Day

A short visit should test how work gets done. Visit during the hours your team expects to use the office and ask to see the actual seating, call and meeting areas included in the offer.

  • Calls and privacy: check where calls are permitted and whether enclosed rooms can be booked when needed. Ask about sound separation, booking limits and charges.
  • Connectivity: test the connection available to members, including video calls if the operator permits. Ask about guest networks and service interruptions.
  • Seating: check lighting, sockets, chair adjustment, noise and ventilation at the desk you could receive.
  • Meetings: confirm included room time, extra-hour pricing, cancellation rules and the booking process.
  • Access: distinguish building opening hours from reception hours and membership access. Ask how entry works in evenings or on weekends.
  • Storage: verify locker availability and what may remain overnight. A shared desk should not be assumed to include secure document storage.

If your team handles confidential discussions or sensitive documents throughout the day, compare a private room with the cost and availability of repeatedly booking enclosed space.

Agree How Guests and Hybrid Teams Will Use the Office

Guest reception and member access are different services. Establish whether visitors can wait at reception, use meeting rooms or enter the shared workspace. Check any time limits and visitor charges before inviting clients.

For hybrid teams, ask whether membership is tied to named individuals, how temporary users are added and whether adjacent desks can be reserved. Confirm who can make room bookings and whether unused allowances expire.

Write down the answers. “Meeting room access” may mean the ability to book a paid room, an included allowance or use subject to availability. Those arrangements have different costs and practical limits.

Choose the Location by the Journeys You Will Make

Start with where your team lives and where clients actually meet you. Test the route at the expected arrival time, including the walk from public transport, building entry and lifts. Cross-city travel can matter more than a familiar district name.

Levent, Maslak and Şişli may be practical when regular journeys already concentrate on the European side. Kadıköy, Ataşehir or Ümraniye may fit an Asian-side working pattern. Karaköy and Galata can also be considered where their transport and workspace options suit the team. None of these districts guarantees better networking, lower costs, bank approval or institutional acceptance.

Workon’s coworking locations are in Ataşehir — Canan Business Tower, next to İçerenköy Metro Station and close to Istanbul Finance Center, and Ümraniye — Elite Park Plaza, next to Çarşı Metro Station. Current availability, access rights and meeting-room allowances should be confirmed for the selected plan through Workon coworking offices in Istanbul.

Company registration support in Turkey for foreign founders with Workon

Workon coordinates company setup, registered-address and workspace needs for foreign founders.

Confirm Registered-Address Rights Separately

If the company will use the workspace as its registered headquarters, obtain written confirmation that the arrangement grants that use and provides the documentation required for the case. A membership receipt or day pass should not be assumed to do this.

Before committing, confirm the full address, the contracting party, the operator’s authority to provide the agreed use, and how the agreement will identify the company at its current formation stage. Keep the address consistent across the relevant documents.

The official Invest in Türkiye incorporation guide explains the MERSİS and Trade Registry framework. Tax-office verification is a separate step; the company and its authorised professional should coordinate any required address and activity checks with the premises-side team.

A registered address does not itself approve every business activity at those premises. Stock handling, production, regular customer traffic and regulated services can change the premises and permission requirements. Review those facts before signing; use the workplace-opening licence guide for the questions to raise with the competent authority or adviser.

For the address document workflow, see legal business address requirements. Neither a prestigious address nor an office-provider contract guarantees bank-account approval; banks retain their own KYC and approval processes.

Compare the Usable Package, Not Only the Monthly Figure

Ask each provider for a written quote covering the same number of users, attendance pattern and meeting-room needs. Record:

  • currency, VAT treatment and payment frequency;
  • minimum commitment, deposit and any setup charge;
  • included days, hours, desks and simultaneous users;
  • meeting rooms, printing, storage and visitor charges;
  • registered-address and mail services, if required;
  • renewal terms, notice requirements and exit responsibilities.

Separate refundable deposits from recurring service costs when assessing the cash needed to start. Also separate the monthly equivalent of an annual commitment from a genuinely monthly cancellable arrangement.

An address change can require official updates even after desk use ends. If the company is registered there, agree the address-transition responsibilities and related fees before terminating. The coworking price guide covers offer comparison in more detail.

Set Up the First Week Before the First Client Visit

Assign an owner to each operational task instead of assuming the office provider handles everything automatically.

Task Confirmation to keep
Member access Approved users, entry method and hours
Meeting bookings Booking account, allowance and cancellation terms
Company correspondence Recipient, notification contact, collection and escalation procedure
Visitors Correct company name and arrival instructions
Equipment and documents What may remain onsite and secure-storage arrangements
Registered-address administration, where included Correct address records, supporting documents and professional contact

Ask separately about letters, couriers, bulky items, scanning and forwarding. These should not be assumed to be included in the same service. Confirm the correct contact details for notifications and tell the operator promptly when those contacts change.

When Should You Move to a Private Office?

Review the arrangement when the team’s actual use changes. Regular competition for adjacent seats, repeated confidential calls, more equipment or frequent client meetings may make a private room more suitable.

Compare the total shared-workspace cost with an equivalent private-room offer and assess how each supports the work. A private room should solve a real operational need; a larger commitment is not automatically an improvement.

How Workon Can Help

Workon provides coworking and shared workspace in Ataşehir and Ümraniye and can coordinate related registered-address and company-setup needs. Workspace access, address rights and additional support should each be confirmed in the written scope. Regulated legal, tax, SMMM/CPA and other licensed professional work is carried out by the appropriate authorised professionals, while banks and public authorities retain their own approval powers.

Send Workon your preferred location, team size, expected office days, meeting needs and whether you also require a registered address. Start with the coworking service; if the company has not yet been formed, review company registration coordination alongside the workspace decision.

Not automatically. Workspace access and registered-address rights are separate. Confirm that the written agreement permits the intended company-address use and supplies the required documentation.

That depends on named-user, access-pass and simultaneous-use rules. Ask whether the plan allows rotating users; do not assume one membership covers several people on different days.

Check enclosed-room availability, sound privacy, booking limits and additional charges during your usual working hours. Frequent confidential work may make a private room more suitable.

Inclusions depend on the package. Confirm room hours, visitor rules, reservation priority, cancellation terms and extra charges in writing.

If the company is registered there, ending desk use is separate from updating its official address. Agree the transition process, documents, notice period and any continuing charges before leaving.
