Türkiye has an official digital-nomad route in 2026, but it is not open to every remote worker. The public process starts with a Digital Nomad Identification Certificate, continues with a digital nomad visa application at a Turkish visa centre or consulate, and then requires the applicant to follow the current post-entry residence instructions for the intended stay. The certificate itself is not a visa, residence permit, work permit or approval guarantee.
Official 2026 eligibility snapshot: a passport from one of 36 listed countries, age 21–55, university graduate status, documented remote work for a company outside Türkiye, a biometric photo, at least USD 3,000 monthly or USD 36,000 annual income, and a passport valid for at least six months from arrival.
GoTürkiye’s current Digital Nomad Identification Certificate requirements set six threshold questions. All should be resolved before you spend money on travel or a long lease. For practical relocation planning after checking the lawful-stay route, see living in Istanbul as a foreign entrepreneur.
| Eligibility control | Current official requirement | Evidence to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Nationality | Passport from one of the 36 expressly listed countries | Passport identity page |
| Age | 21–55 | Passport date of birth |
| Education | University graduate | Diploma or degree certificate |
| Remote-work relationship | Employee contract with a company outside Türkiye, or a self-employed business contract with a company outside Türkiye | Signed contract identifying the parties, role/services and foreign counterparty |
| Income | At least USD 3,000 monthly or USD 36,000 annually | Current, consistent proof of income |
| Travel document | Valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Türkiye | Passport validity check against the planned arrival date |
A biometric photograph is also required for the certificate application. The platform decides whether the uploaded documents are sufficient; meeting the visible thresholds does not turn the certificate or visa into an automatic entitlement.

Pre-screen nationality, age, education, foreign work and income before starting the official application.
Eligibility follows the official named-country list, not a general assumption about a region or visa-free travel. As reviewed on 17 September 2026, the 36 listed nationalities are:
| Group | Countries on the official list |
|---|---|
| European Union countries listed | France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Denmark, Greece, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Bulgaria and Romania |
| EEA countries listed | Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein |
| Other listed European/Eurasian countries | United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus |
| North America | United States and Canada |
If your passport country is not named, do not infer eligibility from residence in a listed country, an EU connection or ordinary visa-free entry. Recheck the live GoTürkiye page because the list can change, then assess another lawful-stay route if necessary.
The wording on the official public page is important: it expressly explains the certificate and consular visa stages, while its page title also refers to short-term residence. It does not say that the certificate itself is a residence card. Confirm the live post-entry document pack and filing instruction instead of copying an old tourist-residence checklist.
For address, insurance, passport, UETS, fee, appointment and route-specific evidence controls, use the 2026 Turkish residence permit requirements checklist. For current short-term grounds and general rules, see Turkey residence permit rules for 2026.
| Document/status | What it does | What it does not prove by itself |
|---|---|---|
| Digital Nomad Identification Certificate | Shows that the platform accepted the submitted certificate-stage evidence | It is not the visa, residence card or work permit |
| Digital nomad visa | Supports entry for the approved purpose under its own dates and conditions | It is not an unlimited right to stay or local employment permission |
| Short-term residence permit | Governs lawful residence during its approved validity period | It does not generally authorise work for a Turkish employer or business |
| Work permit | Authorises the work, workplace and period approved by the Ministry | It is not created merely by remote-worker or residence status |
Keep a separate copy and expiry date for each approved document. A certificate-stage approval cannot be used to predict the visa decision, and a visa cannot be used to assume a residence application outcome.
The published certificate rules are designed around a foreign work relationship:
A portfolio, social-media profile, personal website or promise of future work is not listed as a substitute for the contract. Evidence should tell one consistent story across the counterparty’s location, the applicant’s role, contract term, remuneration and income records.
Working for a Turkish company, taking a local position, operating a Turkish business day to day or switching the economic activity after arrival raises a different work-authorisation question. Review the Turkish work permit guide before performing local work. If you own a Turkish entity, use the company ownership, residence and work-status test; owning shares is not a shortcut around either route.

The contract and income evidence should identify a genuine foreign work relationship and reconcile with each other.
“Document uploaded” is not the same as “fact proved.” Review the file as a single dataset.
Go: every threshold is met and the foreign work/income evidence reconciles.
Fix first: the contract omits the foreign company, income records conflict or passport validity is too short.
Stop: the plan depends on local Turkish employment, an unlisted nationality or the certificate acting as a residence/work permit.
A digital nomad certificate, visa or residence card does not by itself decide Turkish tax residence, the source of income, treaty relief, social-security exposure, permanent-establishment risk or VAT obligations. Those outcomes depend on facts such as time spent in Türkiye, the nature and source of the work, the contracting parties, where management and services occur, and any applicable tax treaty.
Map the tax position before the move and revisit it if the stay, client mix or working model changes. Start with Workon’s Turkey tax guide for digital nomads, then obtain advice based on both Türkiye and the other relevant jurisdiction. Do not use “paid abroad,” “foreign bank account” or a single day-count rule as a complete tax answer.
Once the legal route is viable, test the operating setup before signing long commitments:
Static dollar budgets and “best provider” lists age quickly in Türkiye. Build a current, address-specific budget instead of relying on an old national average.

Test the legal route, address and work infrastructure before committing to a long stay.
| Stage | Your control | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Before certificate application | Eligibility and document consistency | That visa-free entry creates digital-nomad eligibility |
| Certificate review | Readable, current and coherent uploads | That submission means approval |
| Consular visa | Correct mission, appointment and mission-specific file | That the certificate replaces the visa |
| Entry and residence | Visa conditions, e-İkamet instructions, address and timing | That the visa is an indefinite residence right |
| During the stay | Remote-work facts, tax review and expiry calendar | That foreign payment removes every Turkish obligation |
For an eligible applicant, the best file is simple to explain: listed nationality, correct age, university degree, a genuine non-Türkiye work contract, traceable qualifying income and a passport that passes the arrival-date test. The practical plan then keeps certificate, visa, residence, work permission and tax as separate controls.

Review Workon’s residence and work permit services or request a case-specific pre-move assessment before booking the consular stage or starting local activity.
